How Often Should You Really Get a Facial?

The honest, esthetician-backed answer — and how to know what’s right for your skin specifically

This is one of the questions we get asked most at Adagio: how often should you actually come in for a facial to see real results?

The honest answer depends on your skin and your goals — but there’s a genuinely useful starting point worth knowing.

The general guideline: every four to six weeks.

That window lines up with your skin’s natural cell turnover cycle — roughly the same amount of time it takes new skin cells to fully surface and replace old ones. A facial timed to that cycle works with your skin’s own process instead of interrupting it partway through.

Why more often isn’t always better.

Booking facials closer together than that cycle allows can backfire, especially with treatments involving exfoliation or extraction. More frequent doesn’t mean faster results — it usually just means less time for your skin to actually benefit from each session before the next one arrives.

When you might need to come in more often:

  • Active breakouts or ongoing congestion that need regular management
  • A specific event you’re prepping your skin for
  • Very dry or compromised skin, especially during Alaska’s harsher winter months

When less often is genuinely fine.

If your home routine is already solid, a facial every eight to twelve weeks as a maintenance reset works well too. A facial adds to a good home routine — it doesn’t replace one.

So the real answer: don’t schedule around a generic rule. Come in, and we’ll actually look at your skin and talk through what you’re working toward. What’s right for someone managing breakouts looks very different from what’s right for straightforward seasonal maintenance.
